Ahmed Ben Ayed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he leads the Intelligent Radio and Integrated Systems (IRIS) Laboratory. Prior to joining HKUST, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
He received the BEng degree in Electronic Engineering, with a Minor in Mathematics, from HKUST in 2017, and the MASc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2019 and 2024, respectively.
Prof. Ben Ayed’s research focuses on physical-layer technologies for next-generation wireless and satellite communications. His work spans hardware-aware digital signal processing, large-scale antenna arrays, high-performance RF front ends, and advanced RF test and measurement.
His research contributions have received several distinctions at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS), including multiple Top 50 Paper selections and finalist recognition in the Advanced Practice Paper and Best Student Paper competitions.
Prof. Ben Ayed serves the technical community as a reviewer for major IEEE journals. He is a member of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) and serves on its Technical Committee on Wireless Communications (TC-23).
